Tim Wahlers joined our team in March 2007 after working as a development officer for various nonprofits over the past ten years. He began his nonprofit career as a social worker on Chicago’s south side, helping foster kids and their families. He returned to school for his MBA from the University of Georgia, focusing on non profit management and operations. After graduation, he went to work for the American Red Cross at the Metropolitan Atlanta chapter, then moving to oversee fundraising in Louisiana and Arkansas for the National office, where he helped a dozen Red Cross chapters set up major gift programs, strengthen their boards, and improve their overall fundraising capacity.
In 2003 he moved to Washington DC, where he oversaw corporate and major gift fundraising for the National Capital Region, helping the Washington DC chapter launch a $25 Million campaign for critically needed infrastructure. He has worked on dozens major national disasters, from Hurricane Floyd, 9/11, and the SE Asian Tsunami to Hurricane Katrina, and hundreds of smaller disasters that never made national news, raising tens of millions of dollars for the care of disaster victims. Most recently, he was the Chief Development Officer for the Health Foundation for the Americas, doing leadership development and raising money for health programs for the Hispanic community. Tim has experience with a wide range of fundraising, including major gifts, corporate relations, capital campaigns, online fundraising, and board development.
Tim was raised in Athens, GA and went to college at the University of the South in Sewanee, TN and graduate school at the University of Chicago and the University of Georgia. He is an active hiker and cyclist, and refinishes furniture in his spare time. He lives in Washington, DC and is currently planning his wedding to his fiancée, Danielle Gonzales, in April 2008. |
