A Message from the
Managing Partner...

Business managers and owners understand that efficient business models save time and money. This is true for the corporate and the nonprofit industries. Maximizing productivity, efficient utilization of personnel, and attention to the customer/client are important for both types of businesses.

I am proud to announce that Orr Associates, Inc. (OAI) has taken the lead in creating a comprehensive, cost-saving, efficient outsourcing model for a nonprofit "business". Managing nonprofits is a tough business. When I compare my 11+ years on Wall Street to managing nonprofits for the past 15 years, it is difficult to say which requires more business acumen. Interestingly, I have found the skill sets to be remarkably similar.

OAI is now managing several nonprofits in their entirety - from fundraising to financial management to program fulfillment. We have found that we can do it more cost-effectively by combining similar service offerings and sharing resources among several nonprofits. And the real advantage comes from the fact that everyone at OAI is sensitized to the need for fundraising. If the charity cannot raise the funds, there will be no program.

(Improving Non-profits for Children)

OAI helped found (Improving Non-profits for Children) 12 years ago. Today, Youth, I.N.C. has an annual operating budget of 2 million dollars and works with 23 youth-serving nonprofits in New York City. Together, these organizations impact the lives of more than 100,000 children through a large variety of programs including sports, health, literacy, mentoring, tutoring, music, and more.

"OAI has helped Youth, I.N.C. to run soundly and efficiently, better enabling us to achieve our mission and vision. As a result of OAI's outstanding nonprofit management services, Youth, I.N.C. has grown from a tiny, start-up nonprofit to the multi-million dollar organization it
is today."
- Rick Schifter,
Board of Directors,
Youth, I.N.C.

Youth, I.N.C. provides a range of capacity-building services free of charge, including fundraising training, best practices for board governance, and board placement. The yearlong fundraising training culminates in a grand-scale event, underwritten and produced by Youth, I.N.C. Each participating nonprofit retains, on average, 85% of the funds they raise, while cultivating new donors to their organization.

OAI continues to provide nonprofit management services to Youth, I.N.C., including the development and management of the Board of Directors, program consulting, and the production of the annual event, A Celebration to Benefit New York Kids, which will take place on November 1st this year.

Positioned for Growth - Deafness Research Foundation (DRF)

"In a relatively short period of time, OAI has helped refocus and revitalize DRF and our Board of Directors by enabling us to run more efficiently and effectively. Knowing that the day-to-day management of DRF is in competent and qualified hands allows us to focus more on achieving our mission and vision."- Armand P. D'Amato, Chairman, DRF Board of Directors

With its rich history, is the nation's leading research-granting nonprofit in the field of hearing and balance science. With an annual budget of over $2 million, it has awarded more than $23 million in almost 1,900 grants since 1958. OAI provides comprehensive nonprofit management to DRF, managing the organization in its entirety.

OAI assumed responsibility for the administration, management, and development components of DRF. Initial work included a full-scale marketing effort, repairing DRF's 60,000 person database, updating DRF's state registries in over 40 states, revitalizing the planned giving program, and managing the organization's quarterly magazine, Hearing Health.

What was once an organization with a troubling high cost structure, improper management, and insufficient fundraising, OAI has re-stabilized DRF and positioned it for growth.

Nonprofit Management Services Help Achieve Goals - American Friends of the Czech Republic (AFoCR)

(AFoCR) was founded to educate government leaders, media, and other opinion makers across America about the goals and aspirations of the Czech people. Since its founding in 1995, AFoCR has been a voice for the American constituency that supports the Czech Republic.

"AFoCR was a client of OAI for 6 years. During that time, AFoCR experienced a phenomenal period of growth and national recognition. OAI provided our organization with the professional managerial efficiency needed to carry out our nonprofit organization's mission. On a day-to-day basis, OAI provided development, fundraising, published newsletters, database management and back-office administrative work that enabled AFoCR's Board to focus on its mission and programs. The events produced by OAI for AFoCR were well-managed and highly professional. OAI's nonprofit management and event services definitely helped AFoCR move to a higher level." - Milton Cerny, Former President, AFoCR

As an organization fully managed by its Directors without paid staff, AFoCR turned to OAI for fundraising and development services, as well as assistance with the day-to-day management of the organization, including account processing, administration, database management, and communications efforts.

OAI assisted AFoCR with its campaign to erect a statue of the first President of Czechoslovakia, Tomas Garrigue Masaryk, in Washington, D.C. The project culminated in September 2002 with the unveiling of the statue at the T.G. Masaryk Memorial Park on Embassy Row. OAI is proud to have worked with this organization to assist them in fulfilling their mission.

Essential Management - Positive Impact Foundation (PIF)

The 2006 Continental Golf Tournament benefiting the Positive Impact Foundation.

"Over the past six years, OAI has helped the organization I founded, Positive Impact Foundation (PIF), to thrive. The OAI team has handled every aspect of the management of PIF, from doing the taxes and answering phones to helping us fundraise, producing large-scale events like a Blues Brothers concert in Atlantic City, and administering our key programs over the years. By outsourcing the management of PIF to OAI, I can spend my time doing what I do best - promoting positive media images of kids in New Jersey!"
- Joe Piscopo, Founder,
Positive Impact Foundation

Nationally recognized entertainer, Joe Piscopo, who got his start in the cast of Saturday Night Live, had a vision to promote positive messaging about kids in New Jersey through the media. In need of help, Joe turned to OAI for nonprofit management services. OAI has successfully managed operations, development and fundraising, administration, and programming for almost 9 years. Piscopo added, "as everyone knows, I'm a Jersey Boy through and through and for me to even THINK about utilizing an organization outside my home state - you know they must be world-class!"

OAI Purchases Historic Georgetown Building on 28th and M Streets

2801 M Street, NW was recently purchased by Steve and Carol Orr, owners of Orr Associates, Inc. OAI offices have occupied this prominent Georgetown structure for the past 15 years.

"We have called Georgetown home for OAI for 15 years, and are proud to have acquired the building, as it has been an ideal setting and location for our nonprofit consulting practice. Our goal is to fill the additional 10 offices with early stage or smaller nonprofit organizations that can utilize the shared services of OAI. It is an attractive alternative for the nonprofit that understands the power of sharing resources."
