Success Stories
Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington
Our Challenge:
Over the past three years, the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington (BGCGW) has experienced tremendous change in both strategic direction and management. As a result, BGCGW’s efforts for major donor fundraising began to dwindle. Knowing that the OAI team is made up of experienced fundraising professionals, in 2010 BGCGW hired OAI as their outsourced major gifts officers and challenged the team to manage both the major gifts program and planned giving efforts.
Our Solution:
Understanding that BGCGW needed to put volunteer resources, in addition to staff resources, behind the major gifts and planned giving efforts, OAI proposed to work with the team to identify, cultivate and recruit a 6–10 person Major Gifts Development Committee. These volunteers would not only be responsible for supporting the organization financially, but they would spearhead the cultivation efforts for other major donor and planned giving prospects, with OAI’s guidance and support.
The Results:
The BGCGW now has an established Major Gifts Development Committee in place. Over 150 prospects have been identified, rated and assigned to committee and staff members for cultivation efforts. The team has already experienced major financial success, recently secured a $750,000 planned gift commitment, and the future continues to look bright for this vital effort for the organization.
"We've worked with OAI for many years now, and the longevity of our partnership is no accident. They consistently provide a level of effort and excellence that, year after year, yields outstanding events." -Mark Donovan, Vice Chairman, Marriott Foundation for People with Disabilities
