Success Stories
Brooklyn Conservatory of Music
Our Challenge:
The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music (BCM) was founded in 1897 and is located in a beautiful Brownstown in the heart of Park Slope, Brooklyn. While the school has provided music education for over 100 years, in the summer of 2010, OAI was approached by the organization’s Board Chair, as the Executive Director, Dean of Programs and Development Director positions were vacant, because the need for a serious and immediate restructuring plan was high priority in order to save the organization from potentially closing their doors.
Our Solution:
OAI immediately rallied our senior leadership team around this challenge – putting all Department Heads and our Managing Partner behind the effort. We assessed all financials, fundraising initiatives, programmatic plans, staffing and organizational structures, among many other areas. Through our assessment, analysis and strategic knowledge exchange amongst leaders, OAI developed and presented a restructuring plan for the organization that, if implemented, forecasted a significant increase in efficiency, effectiveness, revenue, and most important, an increased ability to continue to enrich lives through music education and outreach.
The Results:
In December 2010, the BCM Board began to implement the plan that OAI presented, hiring OAI to continue to work with their senior leadership team on financial management, board recruitment and fundraising initiatives. An outstanding Executive Director has been hired in addition to an effective Dean of Programs. BCM now looks forward to another 100+ years of providing music education to a diverse and eclectic community.
"We've worked with OAI for many years now, and the longevity of our partnership is no accident. They consistently provide a level of effort and excellence that, year after year, yields outstanding events." -Mark Donovan, Vice Chairman, Marriott Foundation for People with Disabilities
