Emma Kieran

Biography

Bringing more than ten years of professional and volunteer fundraising experience to OAI, Emma joined the team in December 2007 as a Director.

Emma has had the opportunity to team with a number of OAI’s nonprofit clients on a broad range of projects including campaign management, development management and strategic planning, and has partnered with a variety of our clients, including Antietam Healthcare Foundation, American Association of Blood Banks, American Kidney Fund, The Excel Institute, Sitar Arts Center, Lisner-Louise-Dickson-Hurt Home, National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, The Kingsbury School, Society for Hospital Medicine and The National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

Prior to joining the OAI team, Emma worked for Changing Our World, a national philanthropic consulting firm.  During her time there, she helped many nonprofit organizations improve their fundraising activities.  She had the pleasure of working with organizations like the Alpha Phi Fraternity Foundation, Gifts in Kind International, Pearl Harbor Memorial Fund, DC Central Kitchen, Larry King Cardiac Foundation, Washington Area Women’s Foundation and several others.  She was also a writer for Future Leaders in Philanthropy, an online blog for young philanthropists.

Before her time at Changing Our World, Emma worked for Sidwell Friends School on their Annual Funds team.  She helped Sidwell Friends raise more than $2 million annually and succeeded in raising over $1 million from parents of current students for the first time.  Emma also helped manage the Annual Funds portion of Sidwell Friends’ Call Us Friends Campaign to raise over $50 million for building and programmatic enhancements.

Emma holds a B.A. in French and Elementary Education from Connecticut College and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from American University.  She serves on the National Alumni Board for the Ellis School in Pittsburgh, PA and is an enthusiastic volunteer for the National Capital Area Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training.  In her free time, Emma enjoys running, cycling and reading.  She and her husband, Dave, live in Takoma Park, MD.
