Biography

Kara Johnson joined the OAI team as an Associate Director in June 2011. In this role, she has had the opportunity to work with several of OAI’s clients, including Center for National Policy, Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington, Arena Stage and Youth, I.N.C. in the areas of strategic planning, development and nonprofit management.

Prior to joining OAI, Kara served as Development Coordinator for Comfort for America’s Uniformed Services (Cause), a military and veterans nonprofit in Alexandria, VA. As the first development staff member for the organization, Kara oversaw all aspects of fundraising and development including strategic planning, donor cultivation and stewardship, corporate sponsorship, grant writing and event management. In 2010, Kara helped raise over $1 million in revenue and used social media platforms to increase community support for the organization. Kara has also worked for Blue Ribbon Mentor-Advocate in Chapel Hill, NC, conducting a program assessment and developing a college and career exploration curriculum.

Kara graduated cum laude with a B.S. in Mathematics and Child Development from Vanderbilt University and received her Masters in Social Work with a concentration in Management and Community Practice from the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill. In her spare time, Kara enjoys traveling, swimming, cooking and spending time with friends and family.
