Biography
Michael Cantacuzène joined the OAI team in August 2006, bringing more than 20 years of banking, finance, investment and organizational management experience with him. As the Department Head of Nonprofit Management, Michael is responsible for OAI’s nonprofit management services including finance & accounting, audit management, budgeting, tax reporting, regulatory filing, board & committee management, policy development and front office staffing. Michael has assisted clients such as Youth, I.N.C. (Improving Nonprofits for Children), Positive Impact Foundation and the Friends of the National Library of Medicine, amongst others, with their finance and nonprofit management needs.
Before serving as the Department Head of Nonprofit Management, Michael was a Director of Nonprofit Finance. In this position, he was responsible for the day-to-day finance/accounting operations for OAI’s nonprofit management clients. He was also responsible for client budgeting, cash management, financial reporting, audit preparation, tax preparation and finance/accounting policy development and execution.
Prior to joining OAI, Michael served as the CFO of Pareto Energy, Ltd. where he managed all accounting, finance, tax and employee operations. Before his time with Pareto Energy, Michael held the position of General Manager and senior program manager for Govolution, where he was directly responsible for Internet and IVR payment services projects for the federal, state and county clients. Earlier in his financial career, Michael was Special Projects Manager and Vice President responsible for providing analysis, recommendations and management services for internal, international, government and institutional clients at a bank subsequently acquired by PNC Bank. As Portfolio Manager for a predecessor of SunTrust Bank, Michael developed and executed investment strategies for individual and Institutional clients and analyzed debt and equity investments.
As a Peace Corps volunteer in Botswana, he served as Business Advisor/Manager for the Botswana Development Corporation and was responsible for the operations, finances and accounting functions of a knitwear factory and the national craft retailer/exporter and served as temporary finance manager for a large brickworks.
Michael received his B.A. in History from The University of Virginia and his M.B.A. in Finance/Investments from the University of Southern California. He has a Chartered Financial Analyst designation from the Association for Investment Management and Research and a Certified Cash Manager/ Certified Treasury Professional designation from the Association of Financial Professionals. Michael serves as Trustee, Secretary and Executive Committee member for Hillwood Museum & Gardens and is a member of the Washington Society of Investment Analysts and of the Mid-Atlantic Treasury Management Association. He is married to Lizzie Edgeworth and they live in Washington, DC with their three children.
