Biography
Bringing over 12 years of professional and volunteer fundraising experience to OAI, Emma joined the team in December 2007 as a Director and became a Senior Director in 2011.
Emma has had the opportunity to team with a number of OAI’s nonprofit clients on a broad range of projects including annual and capital campaign management, event management and marketing, outsourced development management, board building and management and strategic planning. During her tenure at OAI, she has worked with over 20 of our clients, including the National Capital Region of the American Red Cross, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, AABB, American Kidney Fund, Antietam Healthcare Foundation, National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, the Kingsbury Center, the Lisner-Louise-Dickson-Hurt Home, Sitar Arts Center and Children’s Hospital Foundation.
Most recently, Emma has been working with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington to create a multi-year development plan, to implement major and planned giving strategies, and on marketing and production for their 2012 Tim Russert Congressional Dinner.
Emma has also led the Antietam Healthcare Foundation’s staff through the final phase of the Campaign for Washington County Hospital. She and her team worked with over 50 volunteers and staff to raise charitable funds from physicians, staff, community leaders, corporations, foundations and the government. Additionally, Emma worked with the Lisner-Louise-Dickson-Hurt Home on Board development and annual fundraising.
Prior to joining the OAI team, Emma worked for Changing Our World, a national philanthropic consulting firm. During her tenure, she helped many nonprofit organizations improve their fundraising activities. She worked with organizations including the Gifts in Kind International, Pearl Harbor Memorial Fund, DC Central Kitchen, Larry King Cardiac Foundation and Washington Area Women’s Foundation, among others. She was also a writer for Future Leaders in Philanthropy, an online blog for young philanthropists.
Before working at Changing Our World, Emma worked for Sidwell Friends School on their Annual Funds team. She helped Sidwell Friends raise more than $2 million annually and succeeded in raising over $1 million from parents of current students for the first time. Emma also helped manage the Annual Funds portion of Sidwell Friends’ Call Us Friends Campaign to raise over $50 million for building and programmatic enhancements.
Emma holds a B.A. in French and Elementary Education from Connecticut College and earned a Master’s in Public Administration from American University. She serves on the National Alumni Board and the Development Committee for the Ellis School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and as a volunteer for the National Capital Area Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training. In her spare time, Emma is an avid marathoner and triathlete and enjoys photography, baking and reading. She and her husband, Dave, live in Takoma Park, Maryland.
