Biography

John Butler joined the OAI team as a Senior Consultant in October 2010. As President & CEO of The Human Resource Learning Center, Inc., a management consulting firm specializing in developing organizational solutions that address both staff and system requirements, John has led numerous efforts where he has designed and facilitated needs assessments and organizational development including staff interventions, work process improvements, executive coaching, Teaming, and leadership and management training. 

Formerly, John served as the Vice President for University Advancement at Mount St. Mary's University. In this capacity John provided the overall leadership for Generations: The Third Century Campaign, the most ambitious comprehensive capital campaign in the university’s history -- $60 million. He also oversaw the strategic direction of the Mount’s Advancement Office which included leading the bicentennial celebration, alumni relations, external outreach, marketing and communications, and all university, seminary, and grotto fundraising initiatives.

Prior to joining Mount St. Mary's University, John Butler served as president of Archbishop Carroll High School in northeast Washington, D.C., where he increased fundraising nearly seven-fold—averaging annual revenues over 2 million dollars—and led the school to a resurgence in enrollment.  During his tenure at Carroll, John created a business partnership program that has since become a national model.  Additionally, he was actively involved in the Washington region, serving on numerous boards and councils including a mayoral appointment to the Workforce Investment Council in Washington, D.C.; Leadership Greater Washington, where he recently served as chair of the board of directors; the Greater Washington Board of Trade, the District of Columbia Chamber of Commerce; the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Community Advisory Committee; and the Center City Consortium of Catholic Elementary Schools.  Further, John served two terms on the Mount St. Mary’s University Board of Trustees from 1997-2003, and rejoined the board in 2005 to begin a third term prior to his appointment as Vice President.
 
John holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from St. Michael's College, a Master's of Education, Guidance, and Counseling from Howard University, and has completed Masters Studies in Theology course work at the Washington Theological Union. Additionally, he holds a Certificate for Group Work and Group Psychotherapy from the Center for Group Studies, Psychiatric Institute; is certified as a Zenger Miller Instructor, and by Type Resources to administer the Myers Briggs Type Indicator. John's diverse background benefits clients in several ways. He brings more than twenty years of consulting experience, a practical and integrated approach to organizational and leadership development, and familiarity with psychosocial and interpersonal development. His success as a facilitator and motivational speaker has gained him a national reputation.
