Biography

As an Associate Director, Karina Bhaiwala works with a variety of nonprofit organizations in the areas of development management, event fundraising and management, campaign planning, development audits and feasibility studies.  Karina has been a member of the OAI Team since March 2010, when she joined as a Marketing and Development Associate.  Since then, she has collaborated with several OAI clients including Arena Stage, GuideStar, ServiceSource, Community Family Life Services, YWCA National Capital Area, Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School, American Floral Endowment, St. Mary’s University, Year Up National Capital Region, Microfinance Information Exchange and the Vascular Disease Foundation.

Prior to joining OAI, Karina was the Membership Assistant at the National Association of Foreign-Trade Zones (NAFTZ), where she helped plan several national conferences, contributed to the organization’s monthly newsletter and implemented a Congressional bulletin.  Karina also interned at OAI, during which she worked with a variety of clients, including Mary’s Center for Maternal and Child Care, American Kidney Fund, United Cerebral Palsy, and the DC College Access Program.  She has also interned for GiraMondo Associates, a boutique wine consulting and educational firm, and assisted with the marketing and event planning of wine tastings around the Washington, DC area.

Karina graduated cum laudefrom Georgetown University with a B.A. in both French and Arabic Language and Literature.  As an undergraduate, she was active in the Georgetown University’s New Student Orientation program and South Asian Society, and had the opportunity to study abroad in Morocco and France.  In her spare time, Karina volunteers with the Women’s Information Network (WIN), serves as an applicant interviewer for her alma mater and enjoys dancing, cooking, and exploring Washington, DC with her friends.
